2. What do you see as both short-term and long-term goals at Lord of Life?

Short term goals are getting our members more involved in the programs at Lord of Life. In order to strive and grow we have to have all hands on deck. Everyone has talent that they can bring to Lord of Life.

Long term goals for Lord of Life is definitely expanding our building. We have wonderful growth within the congregation that we need to accommodate with expanding the building.

3. How could the delivery of Lord of Life’s services and ministries be improved to increase efficiency and cost-effect management of church funds?

We live in a technology world. We need to grow our website for the technology age we live in. Getting more of the Congregation involved in all aspects of what Lord of Life does would help in the cost-effectiveness.

4. Why do you want to serve on the Lord of Life Church Council?

I have served in many ways at Lord of Life but never on Council. I would like to have the opportunity to be a part of the council of a church that I love. I feel I have a lot of exciting new ideas to bring to council to help us grow.

Position(s) nominated for: AT-LARGE

1. In what ministry areas have you volunteered your time? Describe your activities and examples of leadership.

At Lord of Life:

I led the Stepping Forward program for 3 years providing meals to those in need at Faith Community Church. This includes planning menus, coordinating volunteers, and providing additional support during holiday meals.

Other congregations:

I served on the council for 3 years at St. Joseph's Church in Grafton, WI when we lived there.

I am the President of Peaches Bully Rescue a 501(c)3 nonprofit bully breed dog rescue. I organize fundraising, coordinate rehabilitation and recovery efforts for the dogs, and re-home dogs into best fit matches.

2. What do you see as both short-term and long-term goals at Lord of Life?

Lord of Life has grown substantially over the last few years and sustaining the membership should be our focus for the near future. Meeting the needs of the community and continuing to attract more families through our preschool, youth programs, senior reach-out and other ministries are part of our long-term goals. We also should make a goal of collaborating with the Faith Alliance and beyond to further our reach and spreading of God's mission.

3. How could the delivery of Lord of Life’s services and ministries be improved to increase efficiency and cost-effect management of church funds?

Implementing principles used in the professional environment will help our ministries improve into the future. Thinking outside the box or changing the way things have been done for years may be sprinkled into current activities and service procedures.

4. Why do you want to serve on the Lord of Life Church Council?

I believe that now is the time to extend our mission and I believe that I can help us achieve that. I work full-time for P&G as an engineer and come with tools that work in the professional side of life. Serving on the council will be an honor.

ERIC ZWARG

Position(s) nominated for: PRESIDENT

1. In what ministry areas have you volunteered your time? Describe your activities and examples of leadership.

Church Council – 4 years as Vice-President. Building Committee, Finance Chair. I designed the Financial Plan that was used to fund the Building Project. I also shopped and obtained the mortgage for the Building Addition. I chaired the Search Committee that identified and hired John Johns, our Music Director. I recently serves as the Property MAC, and now I am in my second year as an at-large member. I have served as Lay Assistant and Service Leader. I was very active in the Theatre Ministry, the Adult Choir, Mercy and now Grace Notes.

2. What do you see as both short-term and long-term goals at Lord of Life?

Short Term: Continue to enhance our Music Program by attracting more musicians and singers, enhancing our worship experience by upgrading our sound system and find a better to present music in our outdoor sanctuary. Complete review of all of our HVAC systems and develop a systemized equipment replacement plan. Develop a new five year plan that incorporates our new agenda derived from our leadership retreats and our congregational visioning meeting we held earlier this year.

Long Term: It’s hard to envision a long term plan, without thinking, Building, Building, Building. We have to dedicate ourselves to intelligently plan for building expansion. We need a larger facility to continue to grow our Outreach and Education programs. This entails a five year financial plan with realistic goals, and dedicated stewardship programs. We need a long term staffing plan to bring in the additional lay and pastoral folks to grow all of our programs.

3. How could the delivery of Lord of Life’s services and ministries be improved to increase efficiency and cost-effect management of church funds?

Create an enhanced on-line presence through social media and web based ministries to take our message of Peace and Hope beyond our own sanctuary. I envision on “on-line” sanctuary that’s available to our community. I envision a video ministry that will take our message outward, and an online outreach program that becomes a resource to our entire community.

4. Why do you want to serve on the Lord of Life Church Council?

I feel called to give my time, talents and experience and to participate in the decision making process that that lies ahead. We are on the cusp of something quite special, and I feel strongly about being part of the leadership team as we proceed on this wondrous journey.

VASANTHI CHALASANI

Position nominated: PRESIDENT

1. In what ministry areas have you volunteered your time? Describe your activities and examples of leadership.

In the past 2 years, I’ve served on the Council in the Secretary position. Over the last 8 + months, I stepped into the leadership role in helping Council transition towards being Strategic vs. Tactical. This transition is a key for LOL leadership team as our congregation is growing and so are the needs. Role of Council becomes crucial in ensuring we have the strategies / goals that are targeted to meet the needs of our congregation and community that we serve and, that we have the right financials to support that.

With Council’s focus changing, I am leading the strategies / execution plan. This was the next step to the visioning work that congregation participated with Luc Bowman. The outcome of this work is a 3+ yr. plan. This has been an exciting journey and much needed work so we have a very good picture of what we need to do with the help of the congregation in order live our mission statement via our ministries and serve our community.

In the past 6 months, Council has been working on year 1 plan which is focused on laying a strong foundation to the base. This includes staffing MAC and office, facility needs, financial planning, space expansion with focus on what we need vs. what we want to support our ministries, members that give their time / resources and our community. We are just getting started and we have a lot of work ahead of us.

2. What do you see as both short-term and long-term goals at Lord of Life?

To start with, short and long term plan should be focused on supporting our mission statement. We do a great job as a congregation with our outreach programs and ministries, but we also continue to struggle with the resources and time to keep them moving. The key for us is to be able to prioritize what is needed and do them well. In the short term, we need to focus on; getting our staffing right. This includes MACs, volunteers and office staff to support our ministries and operations. We also need to build relationship with our new members so we can get them engaged in the ministries. Secondly, ensure we have a plan and budget to operate efficiently with some buffer in the budget to manage any fluctuation. Ideal plan is to have reserves that can help us fund operating costs for one extra year. We also need a robust building maintenance plan so we are not reactive to emergencies but manage them proactively. This includes basic building needs like parking lot, HVAC, kitchen etc. In addition, we need a communication plan to keep staff, congregation and MAC updated and get them engaged.

Planning for the long-term should start now. For the areas, we identified in Feb with Luc Bowman; I would see the following as priorities;

Space Expansion: We need to start planning space expansion. Not just building the space but also how we manage and operate after it is built

Financial Stability / Giving: While the members have increased in the last 12+ months, giving has not been proportionate. We need to develop a deliberate plan to be financially stable. Starting with what is needed for the next 3 years, a budget forecast to support that and a communication plan to share with congregation so they are aware and can share their gifts.

3. How could the delivery of Lord of Life’s services and ministries be improved to increase efficiency and cost-effect management of church funds?

We are a blessed congregation as such we do a lot for our community. But, there should be a balance as we see the same people volunteering and getting burnt-out. In some cases, these volunteers spend their own money to keep it going. I cannot emphasize more that we need more people to help. The leaders for these ministries are fully dedicated to execution that they do not have time to drive the strategies, synergies and assess the results. From a cost-effective management, we need to look at all our programs and start to group them, do a stop/continue based on what is working, leverage a common system or tool so we can communicate across MAC, volunteers, council and staff, forecast and track the budget and adjust throughout the year with allocating to ones that is driving positive outcome.

4. Why do you want to serve on the Lord of Life Church Council?

My strengths are in the areas of strong leadership, building strategies and energize people to execute them, marketing /communication. I do believe we are at a phase with LOL that we need a President that can work with Council and staff, listen to the needs / ideas and help pull a plan that is practical and meets the needs. More importantly, continue to emphasize and keep us focused on our Mission Statement in everything we do. After praying and talking to my dear ones, I do think my skills are best suited in helping to deliver the short and long terms plan, work with staff and council on plans and decisions.
