Environmental Palms

Eco Palms

Americans purchase $4.5 million worth of palms each year - most for church celebrations. Profits from those sales could do great things for the poor communities in Latin America where the palms are harvested. But via traditional trade channels, very little of that money reaches the palm harvesters and their communities.

This year, Lord of Life is again purchasing “eco-palms” for our hosannas for Palm/Passion weekend worship. These palms are harvested in an environmentally sustainable method. Workers gather only quality palm fronds in a way that allows the plant to keep growing.

This Lutheran World Relief project helps harvesters earn a fair income for their labor, while limiting the amount of palms taken from the forest. Visit Lutheran World Relief (lwr.org/palms) to read more.
